Resolution rules
Donald Trump is suing the British Broadcasting Corporation in U.S. federal court over the Panorama programme “Trump: A Second Chance?”, seeking $5 billion for defamation and $5 billion for unfair trade practices. The case was filed in December 2025 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and a trial has provisionally been set for February 2027. This market will resolve to “Yes” if, on or before December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, the U.S. District Court hearing the case enters a judgment, or a jury returns a verdict, finding the BBC liable to Donald Trump on at least one defamation claim in this case. Otherwise, this market will resolve to “No”. If the case is transferred to another U.S. District Court, that court’s proceedings govern. A finding of liability on summary judgment, by jury verdict, or by bench decision qualifies, whether or not damages have been determined. Only the first such finding matters; the amount of damages, any later appeal, and any post-trial motion have no bearing on this market. A finding of liability only on a non-defamation claim (such as the unfair trade practices claim) does not qualify. If the case is settled, dismissed (including for lack of jurisdiction or improper venue), or otherwise resolved without a finding of liability for defamation, this market will resolve to “No”, regardless of any settlement terms, apology, correction, or payment. If no qualifying finding has been entered by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “No”. A verdict returned or judgment entered by the deadline qualifies even if the written judgment or damages determination follows later. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the U.S. court system (including the docket, verdict forms, and orders); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
